Hi. This page within the FMR site contains information pertaining to the seven issues of my punk fanzine Resistant Harmony outta Melbourne Australia from 1987 to 1995. It's basic information on each issue with reproduced high or lowlights from each one forthcoming. Being amongst a family of printers, the debut issue was printed on a classic Geha machine (the size of 2 big copiers) purchased in 1986 for the purpose of self publication. Pages were put to rubber molds and rolled around to ink out page after page which were then collated and stapled by hand. For me now, this seems like it was another world and not something that i actually did do, but it's a cool memory all the same and a great DIY learning curve. Subsequent issues were printed by a back yard gent in the eastern suburb of Croydon and collated in metre high piles which were then glued as one on the spine and sliced at each back cover until a stack of finished issues were in your hands. All photos were taken to a specialist printers to be bromided before becoming part of a master page so as to enhance their reproduction and not have a black blob were a neat photo once lay. My choice of tools were of course a sharp pair of scissors and a handy glue stick, and ye olde Letraset sheets before fonts & personal computing became the norm. The last printed fanzine i was involved with (in 2011) was Stained Sheets, and that was just as much a buzz to witness a finished mag as doing these issues were. It's a wonderful way to get your thoughts and fandom out there and holding a clump of pages and sitting in for a squizz is still one of life's little joys and it holds my attention 100% just as a good read of a new Ugly Things issue does ! You either love this shit or you don't, and the fact that you are reading this right now means that the kick you get is in your blood and that is a solid and very cool thing indeed. Here's hoping that some of the stuff here keeps you entertained for a short while & thanks for checking it out, Scotti - November 2019

Issue # 5 - August 1992:
When producing a fanzine i believe that each ish should naturally be a step up,& so it was with this as the antes were upped, the page quota heightened, the print run extended & the additions fresh. How it all came to be that the gap between #4/5 was an insane 3 years & 1 month, i cannot recall, but it got there in the end & was lots of loyal readers fave issue due to the BORED! Euro Tour Diary penned by our ol' pal Tim Hemensley. ( the full diary is on this site on the Tim Hemensley page)
Content wise then it went like this : (Overseas) NIRVANA, FIDELITY JONES, SIM CAIN (ROLLINS BAND drummer), ANTiSEEN, DIRT CLOD FIGHT,SEVERIN,& for their third look in....MR BUNGLE. Locally we had the magnificent HOSS, YOU AM I, THE MEANIES, BEANFEAST ,GREEN BEAVER, THE HARD-ONS,& BASTARD SQUAD /WARP SPASM (91'Tour Diary).
The Review section also went ape with too many to mention here, and also a 3 pg guest spot of Doom/Grind reviews by Brett Shadowmaker. It also had a solid Adelaide scene report, a Crossword,a Sydney scene report, a piece on the BACKFLIP CO-OP (Our shortlived but fun All Ages Collective),lots of great photos (Splatterheads, Iron Shieks,Tutti Parze, Mass Appeal, Subliminal Pressure,Tofu Terror, The Meanies, AntiSeen, Warp Spasm,Bastard Squad,Velvet Hammer, Nunbait, Bonecrusher, Spiderbait, Aquanuggets,Nursery Crimes, Fridge, and more. The 40 day, 9 page BORED EUROPEAN TOUR DIARY was the highlight for me, and it will be reproduced here within the next few months to exist in the digital realm. There was also LIVE REVIEWS on THE SPLATTERHEADS,GUTTERSNIPES, VERTICAL SMILE,KILLING TIME,as well as a ripper line up in Collingwood on May 19th 1990 feat: BORED!, HOSS,THE DIRTY LOVERS & THE MEANIES.
Issue #5 A4 -72 pgs w: bonus Picture Sleeve 7" single. Print run =1,000 Released August 17th 1992:
This issue also had a Hand Screened Cover wrap around by Stu Thompson (who also did the front cover art for the 7" & appears in screen print heaven on Issue #6) with a killer photo of DAVE THOMAS from BORED! with bare feet & long hair on the front and a full page DOGMEAT RECORDS ad on the flip. The package itself came wrapped in a plastic bag with stamped sticker and included : Water Balloons, a Black Plastic Spider, Random toys, footy cards and stickers + a broken piece of vinyl. These were assembled thanks to a house party with friends over food and drink and passing the mags around for their next 'addition'. The 7" 'Not So Free' featured PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED TRACKS from NURSERY CRIMES, STONE CIRCUS, & KILLING TIME. The first 400 copies were on Purple Vinyl, with the sleeve stamped out of 1,000.
Issue # 6 -November 1993:
Well a 14 month gap between issues & a slight fall back to earth on the page numbers (4 less) and the print run (half) due to dollar constraints (ain't it always ?) but out nonetheless. This one had 3 Different Covers with it's main bite being a 20 page Dischord Records Special (printed on pink paper no less) which had everything from a day to day office wrap to an extensive Discography overview and family tree (half from FLIPSIDE#47 & then extended by myself) to a massive FUGAZI interview. This also coincided with their late Aussie/NZ tour (Nov 10 to Dec 11), with some of those shows (like 1991) absolutely EXPLOSIVE!
This issue also pushed the limits on 'acceptable font standards' by reducing down so much (fanzine /rec reviews) to be almost unreadable and messy for the eyeballs so late apologies for that ol' sport. The Aussie quota was : ASTEROID B-612, MAGIC DIRT,CHRISTBAIT, PATTERSON'S CURSE, POPPIN' MOMMAS, MERGATROID, MINDLESS, SCOURGE, & WEDDINGS PARTIES ANYTHING (Canadian Tour Wrap), with Overseas influence pushing through from NO MEANS NO & trippy artist & shit stirrer ROBT WILLIAMS.
It also had a Japanese scene report with local friend Jan, masses of Fanzine and Record Reviews and quite a stack of reading on the Rockin' chair. The 'standard' cover is what you see to your left with the 'Parental Advisory' collage and Red blotch, the Limited cover removes the Red block and replaces it with three huge red swear words as a none too subtle statement on the overuse of these PA labels on music product of the day. This was then housed (200 Hand Numbered Copies) in a 'Censor Bag', Screen Printed (Stu Thompson custom screens) brown paper bag with the cussing housed inside.
Issue # 7 -November 1995 - A4 -100 Pages -Print Run = 1,000 (the first 500 came with a RH masthead sticker)
So the last issue published (Is it really 23 years ago ?), but maybe not the last issue ever (that horse may well of bolted you say, but my fandom of music has never ever lulled & the discoveries over the past 15 years of mad KBD styled Punk /New Wave obscurities still require further documentation in my book, plus there's the photozine idea and the........) and this one was a heavy mongrel breaking into the elusive triple figures on it's back page Dogmeat Records Ad. It was also a special as we welcomed a BONUS FANZINE in the guts (Printed Yellow) from my long standing pals Dave & Andrew Lang with their biting, informative, bold & funny YEAR ZERO (Issue # 5). Dave's writing and Andrew's graphic wit will forever have me repeat flicking on anything they've published and it was a pleasure to have all this reading out there in one hefty mag (and it remains the only issue still available for sale!)
The RH portion featured (Australian) QUEER, WRONG BODY, THE MARK OF CAIN, PERSECUTION, THE MU-MESONS (that's them front cover lower hangin' from the rafters at the GB Hotel in Richmond) & COME THE RUBBER PIG (feat: early RH contributor Vinnie, his buddy James & Big Al (Post VENOM P. STINGER),whilst the Overseas coverage had THE FIREWORKS, HELMET, JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION, ROBT WILLIAMS (transcript of Sydney lecture we attended in May '93), NEIL HAMBURGER,GIRL TROUBLE (thanks to my old mail-order pal Brendan L)&, BLACKTOP & BOSS HOG.
We got the font size spot on this time, making it the most crisp to view and #7 was super jam packed with fanzine and record reviews (again with custom mastheads supplied by the magic hand of Andrew McLeod of Chapel Tattoos), along with a huge array of photos of Aust /O/s bands, a informative AUSTRALIAN FANZINE HISTORY (1976-1995), a great 2 page cartoon story 'Ten Cent Heroes' by local comic artist BRUCE MUTARD (Street Smell), a swag of previously unseen Late 70's Oz Punk Pics & more....hell even the ADs were cool!
Shitfeast Fanzine... It may not be over familiar to you, and only lasted for a handful of issues but let me tell you... when it was out and about, it caused quite the stir and a bit of a frenzy amongst local Melbourne gig goer's, record store visitors, comic store regulars and those who generally sought out a good underground publication. Shitfeast was A5 in size, FREE at various haunts when a new issue hit and was a great little read that was highly anticipated. Put together by a small bunch of pals based in Melbourne, it featured great artwork penned by the contributors ( many of whom were seriously deep in the local comic / gaming scene ), these drawings and graphics were often BOLD and confronting... sometimes HEAVY, and lots of times FUNNY and always very well rendered.
A strong focus was on Social commentary, but not talking shit about politics..this was more STREET LEVEL... down in the gutters, the seedy laneways, and across the GRIT and the SHIT of traversing the inner city and suburban public transport system... so reporting and spotting of batshit CRAZIES was high on the SFA ( Shitfeast Agenda ) and it was done in such a way as to rope the reader in and paint a picture of wild and wacky activity that was happening day in day out and you really got a FEEL for these individuals and their trials of tragedy and terror which they could dish out at will to any unsuspecting PLEB who made the mistake of locking eyes or being trapped in a tram or train with for 20-40 minutes. They were also RATED with danger levels ala... DO NOT APPROACH UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.. you y'know what I mean ?
Also amongst the pages were brutal 'gossip' pieces on local celebs from hot sources known to the editors, demented crosswords, dark opinion pieces, Serial Killer fandom and sometimes some great EXTRAS, like with ISSUE # 2 where the back page had a stapled 80's FOOTY CARD but with the faces slightly 'doctored' by the editors.. There was always something cool going on amongst these pages and it was a shame that we didn't in the end get 20, 30 or 40 issues as opposed to under half a D. The tight crew behind SF also loved getting on 3RRR-FM with big fan Cousin Creep so they would raise hell on the airwaves as well when not cutting, pasting, printing and distributing their wares, and taking their chances out on the public transport system. Righty -O then, let's get stuck in...
Shitfeast - Issue #1 - 1989
The First issue kicks off with mad graphics which ran through every issue brilliantly and was always eye-popping! DADDY CHAN is the man at the helm & is a great artist whose graphic style is very well suited to black and white. His streetwise contributors and partners in grime are : The MIDNIGHT MAULER, BARRY KHAN, LIGHTNING LOU, NICK O' TEEN, CLARENCE SPERM, & SKIPPY SPHINCTER.
The first crazy off the rank is the one and only IAN 'the laughing boy' SPIVEY... sighted in the scumball back streets of North Richmond at some ungodly hour of the morning by MM and DC. No explanation was forthcoming from his maniacal chortling so they thought wise to leave him the hell alone !
Further along the MM talks about ELVIS in the outer east, whilst the Skip offers up 10 Questions to 'Match the man to the Murder'. lee Ving of FEAR gets a look in for his live banter and acting, whilst a bunch of films get a look in. Contaminated food stories follow with some funny as 'reports' of Celebs behaving badly in Public and in Hospital and basically being A LIST A HOLES !
Daddy Chan offers up some TV Reviews whilst the street urchins return with 'The Swearing Woman' caught in all her POTTY MOUTH glory on the 79 tram... This is classic ! CS finishes up with some nasty chainsaw horror and the back cover graphic gores out to wrap up the debut issue of this red hot Melbourne A5 gem

Shitfeast - Issue #2 - 1989
As you can see, more insane graphics to greet you as you pick up this little FREE A5 booklet at your fave Record Store or Comic Book entry...DADDY CHAN talks about living amongst toxic air as a trade off from being a citizen of the inner city. Page 2 also sees the addition of a new contributor...ladies and germs we welcome THE STALLION
This issue became a fave amongst myself and pals and Record Store customers at the time as it was the one with the BONUS SCANLENS FOOTY CARD stapled to the back and FUCKED WITH by any one of the SF crew who were most likely chuckling with laughter as they worked over some popular Footy champ as they were getting stuck into a bevvy. Page 3 gets us back to the STREET URCHINS with the MAN ABOUT TOWN section where Lightning Lou comes face to face with THE AMERICAN. This international fruitcake was found in a city bookshop talking garble about the Dallas Tv show and LL gets as close as he dares before backing the hell away and being sucked back up into suburbia.
Page 4 is a politically incorrect Skippy trippy, Page 5 sees Clarence Sperm living up to his surname with some graphic odes to advertising and DC puts his pennies worth in discussing the Channel 7 motto of the day 'Nobody knows Melbourne like 7' and talks it real about traversing the underground tunnels connecting the platforms at Richmond Station ('a dirty fuck hole that stinks of Derro's piss') or playing video games in a Vietnamese Pool Hall or getting hassled by the cops late at night...he then talks about the merits of Spray Adhesive ! Pages 6-7 is a full blown graphic from Daddy chan ( a great artist and a great tattooist too) of old ladies at the station talking mumbo jumbo ( and the potential effects)..Brutal.Pages 8 & 9 tackle intense underground cinema, video arcade wraps and some 'wrong' jokes...Page 10 gets back on with the STREET FUCK UPS with THIS TRAIN IS MINE, where Lou gets to observe the crazed wacko known as...the WEREWOLF ! He terrorizes people in and out of the carriages, rubs himself up against poles and people and generally makes a total ARSE of hisself.. his rating is DANGEROUS... do not mess with the WEREWOLF as he may take your neck out ! Page 11 is a McDonalds rant by Nick O' Teen & my Footy Card is BOB HEARD from the Tigers, with a terminator type ear pasted in...Cool! The thanks you's and fuck you's are GOLD and pg12 is a classic graphic from BARRY KHAN about a tiny, aggro piece of shit yobbo who we have all encountered at one point in our lives and is rendered well with all the write writings around it to back up it's bold artwork. A GREAT ISSUE THIS!
Ok, so we are into Ish number THREE with it's strip show cover and intro from Daddy Chan about the team's fascination with The Vietnam War which is covered in a filmatic sense inside. But first, page 3 spits up another installment of MAN ABOUT TOWN and DC checks in with THE CONFRONTER. The 86 tram line is known to the SF crew as the 'Crazy Corridor' and for good reason as Daddy Chan finds this nutjob near the intersection of Gertrude and Brunswick Streets ( Fitzroy we are talking here ) with aggro in tow and standing up to a moving tram and ready to annhilate it with his rage and fists ( and jack daniels shirt and flanny ). His rating: DANGEROUS... do not approach or interupt or your ass could be grass and THE CONFRONTER could be the lawn mower ! Page 4 sees Lou go comic style with 'Garry'...
Pg5 is THIS TRAIN IS MINE ( half pager from Nick O' T ) as he has a look into THE MAD SHITTER on tram 59. He stinks, he belches, he does gross things from his anal passage and he scares the SHIT out of all passengers big and small who are happy to get off and wait for anothery OR get off and VOM..Avoid ! Lightning Lou gives us a paragraph from 89yr old 'Sandy' who indeed has a 'Happy Ending' Onto TV land with page 6 with DC taking on 5 shows and offering up opinion on all. Page 7 is ON THE LOOSE, which is a general 'wrap' this time of STREET WACKOS along with some follow ups on some who get a guernsey in Issue # 2 ( What up WEREWOLF ?). MR PARANOID is here as is MARTIN THE BLANKET BOY ( who I reckon I also recall in my younger days poking around town)..Not a pleasant individual and hard to get empathetic when the person is a nasty piece of work ! Sleazy and annoying as all hell..
THE SWEARING WOMAN has been seen and heard a bit since Issue # 1 so readers are writing in their experiences with the Shitfeasters hot on the trail to try and lock in an interview. And WEREWOLF has tried to clean up his game with fresher clothes, a recent shave and haircut but is still found to be the GRUBBY PEST that he is known for so feel sorry for those on the hampton line.. Crazy gossip follows on eight, with a deep look in to The Bangles 'Eternal flame' and then a detailed piece on those NAM FILMS we talked about earlier, along with a COMIC wrap after. Page 11 is a look into televised Riots and the back page is the second part of the cover, making a cool A4 Horizontal spread, which kinda sums up the subject matter real fine thank you hairy crutch.
AK-47's and ammo adorn the cover of Issue # 4 (the only non-graphic cover of SF) and sets the scene for what may lie within! Daddy Chan talks about a special 1990 Shitfeast mass murderer calendar ( cannot recall ever seeing that in my day so we'll have to find out if it ever made it from the minds of the editors to pen, paper,& print !) The Shit Sticks section gets the dirty on some entertainment legends and we find a visitor amongst the ranks with GRIFF. Page 3 has a crazy crossword with 15 clues across and down all being the same (Slang for Vagina), but with the answers all different of course ! page 4 is GUT RAGE where DC gets down on all the peanuts who cannot handle living in the technological world and who just can not deal with ATM's and Photocopiers..It's pretty funny like a lot of the content in Shitfeast...
Clarence Sperm and lightning Lou then take us through a frightening trip into the dark side of John Farnhamdom, which is some gnarly shit right there and may leave you a bit more slightly disturbed than when you started..Page 6 is DC speaking his mind on this town's mass takers of life via metal objects which fire bullets and is a pretty intense read. Page 7 and it's hello MAN ABOUT TOWN with GRIFF debuting with his city sightings of MIKE THE RAGER,who liked to play it hard on the flinders St steps and accost any and every Male passerby with offers to DROP THEIR DACKS for a lazy fiddy. He was keen to keep 'Raging On' and sounded rather highly strung let's say. His rating is STABLE, more kinda weirdly annoying than a threat to your life if you know what i mean..Page 8 is a very wrong piece (Salesperson of the year) of mind horror that could only be found in the pages of Shitfeast. Page 9 is a full drawn graphic by the multi tasking DADDY CHAN from a dream sequence visualised to him by BARRY KHAN.
Page 10 is MAN ABOUT TOWN with Lightning Lou giving us the lowdown on 'Elsternwick Dipshit' MR NOBODY, who dribbles desperate garbage to unsuspecting cashiers and members of the public and runs off like a scared little rabbit caught in the taillights with sexual frustration running down his pants in the process. His rating is AFRAID and he is known to be a pain in the arse in book and record stores in that area.Page 11 is URBAN MYTHS from our editor in chief and he tells a corker that has done the rounds for years and backs it up with a bit of hard fact and they are sticking to it ! It involves a bathroom visit gone wrong on a date to the parents house..you've heard it huh ? Yeah well it would be a crazy one if true. The back page is a 8 panel graphic from BARRY KHAN which used to confront my senses in many ways upon first seeing it week of fanzine drop and BEER CUNT is certainly not for everyone and is kinda crazy in it's content and graphic rendering and pretty much sums up the freedom to which the Shitfeasters had to be a part of Melbourne's underground magazine culture. NOTHING was off limits and all the power to them I say.
More bold graphics from Daddy Chan on what (i think) is the last issue of this great Melbourne fanzine. The editorial states that they copped a lot of verbal and written heat from #4's crossword and THAT back cover, but they soldier on and work to not GIVE A HANG about what you think or say. We have a fresh contributor this time from THE GIRL NEXT DOOR who gives us WHO ARE THE PEOPLE IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD, with a focus on Ascot Vale resident NORMA. It's all about the down and the dirty and that seems to apply to both her potty mouth AND the state of the residence which the GND is unfortunately stuck inside of on occasion.BARRY KHAN holds forth on four with a full page graphic, whilst Lightning Lou takes 5 on Australia's buried SATANIC CULTS and the comings and goings there of. SIX is CRAZY WEAR (Graphics and Text) from the Midnight Mauler with a great little feature on TRADE MAGAZINES from our main man.
Page 8 is MAN ABOUT TOWN with Daddy C having a stare down with a bad mofo who did not utter a word , raise a hand, or do anything untoward except DEATH STARE...yep..it's THE SURVIVALIST and he is rated as EXTREMELY DANGEROUS as you just never can tell with these unhinged leftfield gutter crawlers... Page 9 is one of my faves across all issues, with crazy 'Shit Sticks', funny graffiti seen around town, Fuck You's and Thank You's and more...The spirit of the mag right there in fact...
TEN has Revolutionary Fashions in graphic form, Uses of the COMMODE at home, and then a wild trip from Lightning Lou with GIRL CRAZY ( more reports from the dysfunctional streets) and a wrap on GUTTEREATER, who dines on the stuff you may find in..... well maybe you don't wanna know. This piece is of interest as it talks about 'Issue #6' and having two other street urchins in it ( SHITFOOT and WILDMAN) but as I say, I do not believe it ever was published. 12 is more TV reviews from DC, 13 a full page chunk of graphic art from Barry Khan with 14 ( and half of 15) seeing Lou and Daddy C offering up FIGHTING STYLES OF THE AUSTRALIAN MALE... very funny shit.
Clarence Sperm finishes it off with thoughts of charred paradise for the music industry and their bland players of top 40 hell. The back page is a repro from some serial killer rag and that is all they wrote. One of the things i always found great about their format of choice ( A5 ) was the way they organised their backgrounds before they laid out their main articles...it always had a great visual element about it and a cool flow issue to issue. There will be links up soon to full electronic flipbook links to all issues and I will be conducting online interviews across 2020 with some of the shitfeast crew so they can give us their thoughts on the rewind to a time when a new issue was a hotly anticipated event!
